CHP Freshmen: Nominate your Favorite High School Teacher or Counselor for the Teacher Recognition Program!

Teacher Recognition Program

You should have received an email from Dean Sharon Salinger, asking you to nominate your favorite high school teacher or counselor for the Teacher Recognition Program. If you have not yet done so, please take a few minutes to go to the website and nominate the teacher/counselor who inspired you the most in high school. Last year, the teachers nominated by CHP freshmen were honored at a special event held at UCI’s University Club. If you have ever wanted to say “thank you” to that special teacher who most significantly contributed to your high school education, now is your chance. Please make your nomination today! (Deadline for nominations is December 18.)

Meet your future CHP VDC/ VDC Norte Neighbors at Coffee Hour this Friday!

Just so there’s no confusion, coffee hour will occur as it normally does from 9-11 a.m. this Friday morning (the last one of the quarter!).

However, this is a specially-themed coffee hour for all you CHP students who have been offered VDC or VDC Norte contracts for the 2008-2009 academic year!

Consider this a “mixer,” where you’ll have the chance to meet potential roommates or at least your fellow CHP VDC/ VDC Norte neighbors!  Current CHP student, Ricardo Komai, has created a facebook group titled:  For those CHP interested in VDC.

We currently do not have any “CHP-themed” housing clusters in VDC, so I think any organized attempt to create one would be greatly beneficial to creating a real CHP community in VDC, assist in hosting more CHP VDC focused events, and ease group travel to and from the complex.

This facebook group can also help facilitate your process of finding other CHP roommates!  All future residents of VDC/ VDC Norte are encouraged to attend this Friday’s coffee hour to meet potential roommates!

What:  VDC/ VDC Norte potential roommate mixer

When:  Friday, December 7, 9-11 a.m.

Where:  The Locus, Honors Study Room

Since this facebook group was created by Ricardo’s initiative, you should contact him with any questions at rkomai@uci.edu.

Volunteers for Academic Talent Search Test Dates

Academic Talent Search (ATS) is CHSC’s biggest fundraiser of the year. CHP students help register junior high and high school students who are taking the PSAT/SAT. Most testing dates occur at UCI, with a couple at other campuses. We need 3 student volunteers for each date to sit at the registration table from 8 AM until 1:30 PM. It is not constant work, you get plenty of breaks, and we encourage you to sign-up with friends, as you’ll get to spend most of the time socializing.
