Be a CHP Stay Over Host! – Apply by March 14

Be a CHP Stay Over Host! – Apply by March 14

To host, you must live on campus in either Mesa Court, Middle Earth, or Arroyo Vista. Not restricted to residents of the CHP halls, but you must be a current CHP student.

The Stay-Over Program (SOP) at UC Irvine offers prospective students the chance to experience what college life is really like by sharing a typical day with a UCI student. Guests are paired with SOP hosts of the same gender according to major and interests indicated on the application.

We will sponsor two Stay-Over dates specifically for prospective CHP students on April 3rd and 10th (first two Thursdays of spring quarter). As a CHP host, you will guide these prospective students around UCI, take them to your classes, and introduce them to the CHP. Your willingness to share your experiences about UCI and the CHP is what makes this program a success!

To participate as a host, you need to fill out an application and return it to the CHP Office by Friday, March 14. You can volunteer to host for one or both dates. Applications are now available in the Honors Office, online, or from a CHP HA or RA. There will be activities going on in either AV or one of the honors freshmen halls both stay-over nights in case you’re worried about what to do with your guest. We don’t expect you to entertain them by yourself the entire time!

All Hosts get a FREE T-shirt and meal passes to eat in the commons with their guest.

CHP Camping Retreat – Info Session, TONIGHT March 5th

READY TO GO INTO THE WILD?! This year CHP will be going on our annual spring camping retreat at Joshua Tree National Park! We plan to leave early Saturday, April 5 and return in the early evening on April 6.  This park has 794,000 acres with 712 higher plant species, 40 reptile species, 41 mammal species, and 240 bird species.  There are also many towering rocks that surround the campsite which can be climbed, nature hikes, and hopefully many wild flowers! There will be plenty of things to do, from hiking to star-gazing, and plenty of s’mores to eat!  For some, this may be your first camping experience; don’t worry, we plan the retreat so that it’s problem-free and a great way to discover the nature lover within you.  The annual retreat is a tradition of our program. It is a great way to start off spring quarter and meet new and different people.

If you want to join us on the retreat, you must attend a MANDATORY Info Session, where we will give you the camping details, answer any questions you may have, and allow you to sign-up for the event.  Bring $30 (cash or check to UC Regents) if you want to sign up at the meeting, or do so in the honors office by the end of the quarter (Friday, March 21st).

Mandatory Retreat Meeting:
** Wednesday, March 5th, 6:00 p.m.  (after CHSC in the Locus)

If you cannot make either meeting, you must see an Honors Peer Academic Advisor or Susan before 4:30 p.m. on March 21st.  Also, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call the office at (949) 824-8409 or e-mail us at chppaa@uci.edu . The cost will be $30 per person.  If you are interested in going, please respond as soon as possible by returning the information requested below.  You can print the questions out and bring the ”form” to the office or e-mail the info to chppaa@uci.edu or stop by the office and fill out a form there.  Availability is always on a first come, first served basis, and our alumni often like to come along, so the sooner you respond, the better!!!  Remember, we must have your information and money by March 21st.  See you at the retreat!

CHSC Meeting & Fundraiser TONIGHT

The UCI Health Education Center is conducting a study and they need more MALE participants to balance out their gender ratio.

CHSC will earn $3 per participant and $5 per male if we can get 30 or more participants!

It is a 15 minute laptop study/survey that will occur during the Week 9 CHSC Meeting, Wednesday, March 5 in the Locus at 5:00 p.m.

The study involves looking at a series of pictures on a laptop and then providing your opinion.  Students who have participated in Psych experiment 545 or Psych experiment 714 cannot participate in this again.

Please help CHSC earn money by participating in this very short and very easy study!

Biological Sciences Student Affairs Office Move

Due to upcoming renovations to Steinhaus Hall, the Biological Sciences Student Affairs Office will be moving out of SH 231 to the new Biological Sciences III building for SQ08 and Summer 2008.  We will return to SH 231 by the beginning of FQ08.

Important things to remember:

1)      The office will move on March 17, 2008 – we will be closed that day for the move.  This is Monday of finals week, so please come and see us before if you need anything before that date.

2)      We will re-open up on Tuesday, March 18th on the third floor of Bio Sci
III.   We do not really have an address within the building because all of the counselors’ offices will surround a public hallway, and our front desk will be located in this hallway.  The first office in our series is in Bio Sci III, #3222, so you can find us that way.  Please come up the front elevator, turn to your left, and follow the signs to our area.

3)      Please stay away from Steinhaus Hall during spring break (March 22 – 26).  Most of the concrete on the outside of the building is going to be jack hammered off, and it will be dangerous to be around this building.

We apologize for any inconveniences this may create.  Please give us a call at 949-824-5318 if you have any questions.

or turned in a CHP StayOver Application

can begin signing up in the honors office.

PRO-FRO

Prospective Freshmen Outreach (Pro-Fro) targets next year’s incoming freshmen who have been accepted to the Campuswide Honors Program. This is one of many opportunities you’ll have to share your UCI and CHP experiences with prospective freshmen and answer some of their questions. This is the first year that students will receive a personalized message via email, as opposed to postcards. Your voice is important, as prospective students want to hear about the CHP experience from a current student.  All you need to do is complete the short form – via a EEE survey – and we’ll send your message out to prospective CHP students.

Online Submission Form:  eee.uci.edu/survey/profro_08
