Be a CHP Stay Over Host! – Apply by March 14

To host, you must live on campus in either Mesa Court, Middle Earth, or Arroyo Vista. Not restricted to residents of the CHP halls, but you must be a current CHP student.

The Stay-Over Program (SOP) at UC Irvine offers prospective students the chance to experience what college life is really like by sharing a typical day with a UCI student. Guests are paired with SOP hosts of the same gender according to major and interests indicated on the application.

We will sponsor two Stay-Over dates specifically for prospective CHP students on April 3rd and 10th (first two Thursdays of spring quarter). As a CHP host, you will guide these prospective students around UCI, take them to your classes, and introduce them to the CHP. Your willingness to share your experiences about UCI and the CHP is what makes this program a success!

To participate as a host, you need to fill out an application and return it to the CHP Office by Friday, March 14. You can volunteer to host for one or both dates. Applications are now available in the Honors Office, online, or from a CHP HA or RA. There will be activities going on in either AV or one of the honors freshmen halls both stay-over nights in case you’re worried about what to do with your guest. We don’t expect you to entertain them by yourself the entire time!

All Hosts get a FREE T-shirt and meal passes to eat in the commons with their guest.

Please submit your completed form to the Honors Office.

CHP Camping Retreat – Info Session, TONIGHT March 5th

READY TO GO INTO THE WILD?! This year CHP will be going on our annual spring camping retreat at Joshua Tree National Park! We plan to leave early Saturday, April 5 and return in the early evening on April 6.  This park has 794,000 acres with 712 higher plant species, 40 reptile species, 41 mammal species, and 240 bird species.  There are also many towering rocks that surround the campsite which can be climbed, nature hikes, and hopefully many wild flowers! There will be plenty of things to do, from hiking to star-gazing, and plenty of s’mores to eat!  For some, this may be your first camping experience; don’t worry, we plan the retreat so that it’s problem-free and a great way to discover the nature lover within you.  The annual retreat is a tradition of our program. It is a great way to start off spring quarter and meet new and different people.

If you want to join us on the retreat, you must attend a MANDATORY Info Session, where we will give you the camping details, answer any questions you may have, and allow you to sign-up for the event.  Bring $30 (cash or check to UC Regents) if you want to sign up at the meeting, or do so in the honors office by the end of the quarter (Friday, March 21st).

Mandatory Retreat Meeting:
** Wednesday, March 5th, 6:00 p.m.  (after CHSC in the Locus)

If you cannot make either meeting, you must see an Honors Peer Academic Advisor or Susan before 4:30 p.m. on March 21st.  Also, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call the office at (949) 824-8409 or e-mail us at chppaa@uci.edu . The cost will be $30 per person.  If you are interested in going, please respond as soon as possible by returning the information requested below.  You can print the questions out and bring the ”form” to the office or e-mail the info to chppaa@uci.edu or stop by the office and fill out a form there.  Availability is always on a first come, first served basis, and our alumni often like to come along, so the sooner you respond, the better!!!  Remember, we must have your information and money by March 21st.  See you at the retreat!

SO MUCH HAPPENED BEFORE DOROTHY DROPPED IN. The Los Angeles Times said, “WICKED is a phenomenon that keeps growing. The witchcraft is as fresh as ever. It delivers everything we expect of a big ticket musical-theater experience – spectacle, anthemic songs, a cathartic story – and makes the most of an irresistible theme: the indelible bond of friendship.”

READ THIS CLOSELY:

or turned in a CHP StayOver Application

PRO-FRO

Prospective Freshmen Outreach (Pro-Fro) targets next year’s incoming freshmen who have been accepted to the Campuswide Honors Program. This is one of many opportunities you’ll have to share your UCI and CHP experiences with prospective freshmen and answer some of their questions. This is the first year that students will receive a personalized message via email, as opposed to postcards. Your voice is important, as prospective students want to hear about the CHP experience from a current student.  All you need to do is complete the short form – via a EEE survey – and we’ll send your message out to prospective CHP students.

Volunteer for Honors Experience Day – March 8th!

Volunteer Online

Honors Experience Day is the Campuswide Honors Program’s largest recruitment event of the year. It is an informational program that introduces prospective honors students to UC Irvine and the chance to hear from faculty, staff, and current students.

In the morning, visiting students and their parents hear from current Campuswide Honors students and staff concerning the CHP and UCI, followed by a variety of faculty lectures in the academic schools. In the afternoon, students will have lunch and then attend sessions in their academic school to learn about their respective majors and meet current honors students (That’s you!). Afterwards, they are offered tours of honors freshmen housing (The Shire, Loma, & Arroyo), Langson Library, the Science Library and the campus.

Honors Experience Day Schedule, Saturday, March 8, 2008

8:00 – 9:00 a.m. Continental Breakfast and Registration

9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Information Session: The Regents’ Scholarship and the Campuswide Honors Program

10:45-11:45 a.m. Lectures by the Faculty

With an expected attendance of over 1,000 guests, your participation is CRUCIAL to the day’s success. Last year, 130 CHP students of all years and majors were present throughout the day, and left a very memorable & positive impression on our prospective students and parents!
