Junior Year Research/Thesis Meetings

ATTENTION: If you are Graduating Next Year

(In Fall 2008 or Winter, Spring, Summer 2009), or planning to do research and finish your honors thesis next year…

You need to meet with an Honors Advisor in winter or spring quarter of THIS year to discuss your research/thesis plans and senior year.  Regardless if you’ve already begun research, are still looking, or haven’t even thought about it yet, we need to talk!  This meeting is not optional, it is MANDATORY.  We will discuss what you should be doing to complete your honors research/thesis project and finish your CHP requirements.

Meetings will be scheduled in small groups and with similar majors (within the same school, whenever possible- you can sign up with your friends!).  Meetings on average will last about 30 minutes.  Please call the CHP office at (949) 824-5461 to schedule an appointment.  The person scheduling the appointment will need to know your school and projected date of graduation.

**If you are a current third year who is planning to delay graduation past Spring of 2009 and you haven’t informed us, please let us know!  This affects several deadlines and reminders that we will be communicating to you.

Submit your T-shirt Designs! ***$30 PRIZE***

I know there are a lot of creative, artsy, photoshop-savvy people out there, especially after seeing all the great CHP t-shirt designs that were submitted last quarter.  Well, now we’re asking for your help again!  CHP is designing a shirt for our student volunteers to wear at upcoming recruitment events like Honors Experience Day (March 8).  But we need an attractive design!  Here are the guidelines:

GUIDELINES

1.  Needs to say “Campuswide Honors Program” and our Latin motto, “veritas via vitae” somewhere on the shirt

2.  Should NOT say: “Honors Experience Day”

3.  Shirt color should be bright enough to stand out in a crowd (we want the people wearing them to be visible!), but please try to avoid blue or green as that color has been used the past 2 years

4.  Max colors: 2 colors on a different colored shirt

5.  Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator file formats are best, but I will also accept high resolution JPEG files.

*you can submit multiple entries- there is no limit per person!

*******PRIZE********

$30 Gift Certificate to the UCI Bookstore if we pick your design!

Designs are due to Ryan by Friday, Feb. 8 at rlombard@uci.edu

Here is the design that has been used the past two years:

Honors PAA Applications – Deadline Extended until 1/28

Will you be a Junior or Senior (or Super Senior) next year? Are you bubbling with CHP enthusiasm? Do you like working with fun and interesting people? You’ll work flexible hours, make friends in high places, garner the admiration and respect of your peers, and earn a few extra bucks on the side.

PAA Applications are online and available for pick-up in the Honors Office.

You can submit your application online or at the Honors Office. The Langson Library Honors Study Room has New Furniture!

The Nordstrom Honors Room (Langson Library 457) has a new look!  Based on feedback from Honors students last year, we have installed new carpeting and furniture along with new paint and a “quiet zone” sign.  We are still waiting for new study chairs for the tables, but hope you will enjoy the small sofas and other soft seating chairs.  There are also plenty of outlets to plug in laptops.

A big “thank you” to the Honors students who gave us valuable advice about how to improve this space.
