Be a CHP Stay Over Host! – Apply by March 14

Be a CHP Stay Over Host! – Apply by March 14

To host, you must live on campus in either Mesa Court, Middle Earth, or Arroyo Vista. Not restricted to residents of the CHP halls, but you must be a current CHP student.

The Stay-Over Program (SOP) at UC Irvine offers prospective students the chance to experience what college life is really like by sharing a typical day with a UCI student. Guests are paired with SOP hosts of the same gender according to major and interests indicated on the application.

We will sponsor two Stay-Over dates specifically for prospective CHP students on April 3rd and 10th (first two Thursdays of spring quarter). As a CHP host, you will guide these prospective students around UCI, take them to your classes, and introduce them to the CHP. Your willingness to share your experiences about UCI and the CHP is what makes this program a success!

To participate as a host, you need to fill out an application and return it to the CHP Office by Friday, March 14. You can volunteer to host for one or both dates. Applications are now available in the Honors Office, online, or from a CHP HA or RA. There will be activities going on in either AV or one of the honors freshmen halls both stay-over nights in case you’re worried about what to do with your guest. We don’t expect you to entertain them by yourself the entire time!

All Hosts get a FREE T-shirt and meal passes to eat in the commons with their guest.

Download a Host Application form online:  2008 CHP-SOP Host App.pdf

Please submit your completed form to the Honors Office.

Battle of the Brains 2008

Want to get more involved in the Campuswide Honors Student Council?

Here’s your chance!  Battle of the Brains, a trivia bowl between faculty and students and CHP’s largest event of the year, is coming up in May and we need volunteers!  Through joining a committee, you will have the opportunity to help brainstorm for the event, plan decorations, help with technical support, deliver letters to sponsors, plan refreshments, and assist running the actual event.

If you would like to see what it’s like to help put together a big event, if you would like to get more involved with CHSC, if you would like to get to know your lovely Social Chairs better, or if you just want a free t-shirt, please contact either of your Social Chairs, Sarah Barber (sbarber@uci.edu) or Eunjae Kim (eunjaek@uci.edu) to volunteer as soon as possible!  All help is appreciated and welcome :)

Additionally, if you are interested in doing entertainment before the event (for example, last year Professors Barrett and Stanford’s band performed before the event) please contact us and have some material prepared to audition.
