Last call for Homecoming Applications

SENIORS!  Last call for Homecoming Court Applications!!  Go down in UCI history as the Homecoming King or Queen.  Apply for Court today.  

Homecoming Court applications are due Friday, January 30th by 5pm in the ASUCI office.  You can find copies of the application in the ASUCI office or online at www.asuci.uci.edu.  
This year is the biggest Homecoming has ever been.  Be a part of it!

Ruth Kluger Reading

Ruth Kluger, Professor Emerita of German at UCI and Humanities Core Course author, will be reading from her book Still Alive: A Holocaust Girlhood Remembered and answering questions at a special forum to be held on Friday, January 30 from 11:00 – 11:50am in the BS3 Lecture Hall. Her book is part of the spring quarter material for Humanities Core, so don’t miss this!

NAR Announcements

Haiku contestSubmit to NAR’s Winter publication! We accept all types of creative work–poems, short stories, photos, music, drawings, etc. The Winter deadline is February 12th, and the Unveiling will be February 26th. E-mail all submissions to narchp@gmail.com.

Also, participate in the annual NAR Haiku Contest! Using Amanda Wong’s photo of the Eiffel Tower (right) for inspiration, write and submit an original haiku. The winner will be announced at the Unveiling and will recieve a LEGIT prize!

Volunteer for Honors Experience Day!

Honors Experience Day is coming up on March 7th! This is our big recruiting event for the year, which means that we need your help! We will need students to help with registration, greet/mingle, answer questions, and give housing tours, among other tasks. You can check out shift details and sign up online. All volunteers will get lunch and a cool t-shirt, so sign up today!

CHSC Fundraiser: Academic Talent Search

Did you dance the night away at the CHP Semi-Formal on Saturday? Support the programs you love by volunteering for Academic Talent Search (ATS). Help sign in students taking the PSAT. It only takes 1.5 hours, and you can sign up now! Morning (8-9:15) and afternoon (12-1:15) shifts this Saturday, Jan. 31st, now available.

And if you have friends at UCSD or just want to see the campus, sign up to do ATS in San Diego on Sat. Feb. 7th! Volunteers and drivers needed for both shifts.

Upcoming Scholarship Opportunities

  1. Apply to be an SOP Intern! Are you looking for some internship experience? Do you want to know more about scholarships? If so, apply to be a Scholarship Opportunities Program Intern.   2. Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship

If you can see yourself serving effectively as a goodwill ambassador overseas, apply for a Rotary Foundation International Ambassadorial Scholarship. Freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors in any field may apply to study abroad for one year in any country with a Rotary club.

Deadlines vary by club; March 2 is the deadline by which application drafts and all supplementary materials (such as letters of recommendation, transcripts, etc.) must be received in the SOP office for the Newport-Irvine Rotary club.

Want to win a scholarship but don’t know enough about it? The SOP is holding its annual scholarship workshops. Learn from the experts how to become a stronger candidate for prestigious merit scholarships!

Wed., Feb. 11 – Arts, Humanities, Soc. Ecol. And Soc. Sci
Thu., Feb. 12 – Science, ICS, Engineering and Mathematics.

If you can’t attend the workshop designed for your major, come to the other event; you’ll learn helpful scholarship information and tips at both workshops.

Past student winners and faculty will present information, firsthand experiences, and tips on applying for scholarships such as the Fulbright, Marshall, USA Today, Strauss, Rotary, and the NIH. Workshops will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. In the Social Sciences Hall 100 (Lecture Hall) on 2/11 and Howard Schneiderman Lecture Hall 100 on 2/12. No need to RSVP!
