Planning Ahead: Jacob K. Javits Scholarship
May 26, 2009 at 11:08 am by Jeff Fulkerson
Summer is an excellent time to start preparing for upcoming scholarships in the fall – it gives you plenty of time to prepare important documents like your CV, which can be used for practically everything academic you apply for! October is a major month for scholarship deadlines, with the Jacob K. Javits Scholarship being due earliest, October 1. Undergraduate seniors apply for graduate study in the arts, humanities, and social sciences and must demonstrate financial need. Check out our website for more information at www.scholars.uci.edu!

Last CHSC General Meeting of the year
May 26, 2009 at 11:06 am by Jeff Fulkerson
It’s the last General meeting of the year, and it’s going to be run by our NEW COUNCIL for next year! Make sure to be there for food, fun, and LOTS OF PRIZES!! That’s right, we’re giving away our 4 GB memory card to the CHPer who turned in the most pictures to our website, we’re raffling off prizes for those of you who received lottery tickets (make sure to bring them!), and we’re announcing which hall will be getting a free pizza party due to the most participation in the Incentive Program (current standings can be seen on the left side bar). Currently, it looks like the Shire is winning, but remember that points still have to be normalized, and people can earn last minute points by coming out to this last meeting, so make sure to be there for a whole lot of fun tomorrow (5/27) at 5pm in the Locus!
AV ROOM DRAW
May 26, 2009 at 11:05 am by Jeff Fulkerson
Yes, that’s right! It’s finally time for AV Room Draw! It will be held next Monday, June 1st, at 4pm in AV 1006. MARK YOUR CALENDAR and start thinking about who you want to room with (if you haven’t done so already). Before coming to the room draw, you MUST READ the Room Draw Procedures. Also, please note that since we are temporarily moving to different houses for the ‘09-’10 schoolyear (due to renovation), there will be NO SQUATTER’S RIGHTS. So even if you already live in a CHP AV house, you will need to come to room draw to choose a room in one of the new houses.
Be sure to read the Room Draw Procedures and we’ll see you next Monday!

AV Room Draw Procedures
May 26, 2009 at 9:33 am by Jeff Fulkerson
Arroyo Vista Room Draw for CHP students will be held on:
Monday, June 1 (Week 10) at 4PM in Arroyo Vista House 1006
Due to renovation, the CHP houses will be moved for the 2009-2010 schoolyear. Next year’s CHP houses will be: AV 1064 (32 people), 1066 (16), 1068 (24), and 1070 (32). These houses are newly renovated and have all new furniture and plasma TVs.
Room Draw Procedures
Find your Roommate before Room Draw!
Anyone who currently does not have a roommate identified for next year should try and find one before Room Draw. A good way to indicate you are looking is by posting on the CHP Facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2200127801 . If you can’t find a roommate prior to room draw, please arrive early and talk to other people there looking for a roommate. It makes the process go much more quickly and smoothly when people know who they are rooming with IN ADVANCE.
NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO CHOOSE A ROOM WITHOUT A ROOMMATE. It is REQUIRED that everone find a roommate (if you still do not have one at the time of room draw, let me know as soon as you get there so I can help you identify other roommate-less people).
These room draw procedures were designed to be as fair as possible, but there is no perfect system. No changes will be made to these procedures, so please don’t ask. Good luck with the draw!
- There are no longer any squatter’s rights. Even if you currently live in a CHP house, you must attend room draw to choose a new room.
- Room selection order will be determined by your year in school, and then # of units
- Next year’s super-seniors get first pick, with seniors getting second (in descending order by # of units completed), then juniors, etc.
- For roommate pairs, whoever has the greater class level and then # of units will pick first and will “pull” their desired roommate into that room with them.
- You AND your desired roommate MUST be present when your names are called, otherwise you forfeit your turn *(see below for exceptions).
- You can have your roommate choose for you (if you have one in mind), but he/she MUST bring a signed written note from you which expressly gives them permission to pick a room for the both of you.
- You can send a representative on your behalf WITH a signed written note from you granting them permission to choose for you.
If neither of these options are feasible for you, email me at jfulkers@uci.edu and we will try to make something work.
