Summer Job Opportunity through GSA

Looking for a summer job?

Check out the Gifted Students Academy (GSA) program! GSA is part of CFEP (Center for Educational Partnerships). As a GSA RA, you will supervise middle school students who attend this program and live in the residence halls – they get the “college experience” for one week sessions at Middle Earth. GSA is looking for outgoing and friendly individuals who would be good role models for these exceptional students.

If you’re interested, check out the RA letter, job description, and application. And, just a heads up, they’re in need of more girl RAs! Contact Head RA Julienne Calasanz for more info.

Charles Lave Paper Prize

Named in honor of Charles Lave, (an economics professor who served on the UCI faculty for more than 30 years), the $1,250 prize will be awarded to papers that display clear exposition of creative models (theories) and point to, or include, data that permit evaluation of the models. Any UCI student is eligible for the prize. The paper may be in any social or behavioral science discipline, or interdisciplinary in nature. It may be qualitative (with words only) or quantitative (with mathematical expressions) and may range from a scholarly article (including papers done as class assignments or dissertation chapters) to an op-ed piece. In keeping with Charles Lave’s values, clear and concise writing will be appreciated. The deadline for submission is Friday, May 15, 2009. Papers should be turned in to Teresa Neighbors, Undergraduate Program Coordinator, in SSPA 5135. Click here for the application.

CHP Paintball

As requested, CHP paintball day is back! Have fun “marking” your fellow CHPers on May 23rd at SC Village Paintball Park. We need a minimum of 28 players to reserve a private group, so please contact Kyle Hosford (khosford@uci.edu) ASAP to confirm your interest or with questions. More details to come soon…
