Professor McWilliams is missing a Hat!

Did you attend the CHP Retreat this year?  Did you happen to borrow a hat from Professor McWilliams?  Do you have a random hat lying around and have been wondering who it belongs to or where it came from?  We are seeking the return of the missing hat!  Prof. McWilliams would kindly appreciate the return of this hat or any information that might lead to its whereabouts. Please help us track it down.

Fall 2008 Enrollment – Begins Monday, May 19

NO AUTHORIZATION CODES are needed for Fall 2008 enrollment in honors core courses.

The fall schedule of classes can now be viewed at http://websoc.reg.uci.edu/perl/WebSoc, so plan your schedule!

All CHP enrollment windows will begin opening on Monday, May 19th at 9:00 am. Log into WebReg to verify your exact window time.

Fall 2008 Honors Core Courses:

Course Code: 70010-70016, Social Science Core H1G

Course Code: 42090, Earth System Science H90 

If you have an unusual situation (i.e. will be a sophomore taking Science Core or seniors taking any part of an honors core), you will need to notify us IN ADVANCE so we can approve you for the core you need to enroll in.  

- All current freshmen and sophomores are pre-approved for Social Science Core enrollment.

- All current sophomores & juniors are pre-approved for Science Core H90 enrollment.

If you do not fit in either of these groups and are planning to take a core, we need to know!

Students who require a particular section should try to enroll as soon as their window opens. In the event that your NEEDED section fills, please contact the honors office ASAP and we may able to help you.

Banquet Talent Show/ Student Speaker Auditions!

We are looking for talented acts to perform at this year’s banquet!  If you have a short solo, duet, or group act- we encourage you to audition!  Past acts have included a cappella groups, instrumental performances, dance routines, unique abilities or skills (i.e. solving a rubik’s cube in less than a minute!), and short skits/plays.  These are just a few ideas…so be creative!  We welcome all types of talent.

This will be our second year to feature Senior Student Speaker–think Commencement ceremony speech, but for a CHP audience.  There are no official guidelines for speech criteria, although keep in mind that there is no campus-wide Honors Convocation ceremony anymore and we are looking to fill that gap with some additional honoraries for graduating CHP seniors at our own banquet.

*Please limit your speech to 3-5 minutes in length

*Please bring 3 printed copies of your speech to your audition

*Must be a graduating senior

*Must be a CHP student

The 2008 CHP End of the Year Banquet

Date: Saturday, May 31

Time:  6:00-9:30 p.m.

Location:  UCI Student Center, Pacific Ballroom

Ticket Price:  $15 per person, FREE for graduating CHP seniors

Ticket Sales:

CHP seniors have priority to sign-up NOW until Friday, May 16.  You can still sign up after this date, but your exclusive window will be closed.  Your admission price is FREE.

Regular ticket sales will begin starting Monday, May 19 until Friday, May 23rd at 11 am (end of Coffee Hour).  Tickets are $15 each and must be purchased in advance. 

–THERE WILL BE NO TICKETS SOLD AT THE DOOR–

1 non-CHP guest or date is allowed per person.  You may sign them up only IF you pay for them.

The End of the Year Banquet will be held on Saturday, May 31st in the Pacific Ballroom of the Student Center.  Doors open at 6:00 PM with dinner starting promptly at 6:30 PM.  Dinner will be buffet style and the menu will be announced shortly.   

Other highlights of the evening include a talent show, various awards, picture slideshow & video, and recognition of our graduating seniors!

CHP Yearbook Orders

Reserve your CHP Yearbook today!  We are currently taking preorders which you can place in the Honors Office.

The 2008 CHP Yearbook will feature: 

-          Graduating Senior Profiles

-          Event summaries with picture collages

-          House/hall photos

-          Photos of every CHP student (freshmen through seniors)

-     More color pages than ever before

-          …and other highlights from the year

The total length will be ~60 pages.

Cost is only $5.00!  Payment is due at the Banquet on May 31, but payment is preferred at the time of preorder.  If you preorder a copy, we expect that you intend to pay for it–there will also be a limited number of extra copies available for sale at the banquet.

New PAA Spring Bonfire – May 18, 3-7 pm

Just a friendly reminder about the BBQ Beach Bonfire fun happening just for you this Sunday, May 18th at Huntington Beach from 3-7 pm!!  Don’t forget to sign up with your HA/RA or at the CHP office by this Thursday afternoon.  Its only 1$!

For those of you that need rides, drivers will be meeting in front of AV house 1012 on Sunday afternoon.  There, we will hand out driving waivers and directions to the AMAZING event!!

Don’t forget — sign up by Thursday afternoon to partake in the wonderful, awesome, fantastic New PAA SPRING BBQ Beach Bonfire!

Freshman Four Year Plans Deadline – May 16

Friday May 16 (Week 7)

Attention all freshmen: Four Year Plans must be submitted and processed by Friday, May 16!  That means you are quickly running out of time to get it signed by your departmental advisor and reviewed by a PAA.  Come in during our office hours or make an appointment to speed up the process.

A note to Undecided/Undeclared students: You still need to turn in a course plan.  Fill in as much as you can (1-2 year plan), get it signed by Jerome Keh in the U/U office, and turn it in to us.  Your plan should cover the courses you intend on taking that will lead you to declaring a major.

Pictures DUE THIS FRIDAY – MAY 16!

You could win a 1 GB Memory Card!

If you’ve been taking pictures at CHP events, in the dorms, or just hanging out with your friends, and want some of them to be included on the site AND/OR in our annual Slideshow at the End of the Year CHP Banquet (May 31), then please upload them!

Some examples of events we’d like pictures from:

Faculty Coffee Hours, Broomball, Halloween Dance, Semi-Formal, Battle of the Brains, Stay-Over Program, Camping Retreat, Wayzgoose, Shire/Loma/AV House events…and pretty much anything else!

Remember — If you upload the most photos to the CHSC website over the 2007-2008 school year, you will be rewarded with a 1 GB memory card!

If you have more pictures than you care to upload, we will accept burned to a CD or bring them to the honors office on a flash drive!  Bottom Line:  If you have them, we want them!
