Sponsored by KAPLAN Test Prep & Admissions

A pre-show band performance by UCI Logic & Philosophy of Science Professors Kyle Stanford and Jeffrey Barrett will kick off the event.  Battle of the Brains is a trivia competition that pits current CHP students against UCI Deans and prestigious faculty.  In addition to the trivia battle that ensues on stage, audience members participate by answering questions unknown by either team. Excitement steadily builds throughout the event as each side dukes it out over the course of three rounds. The past few years have yielded very close matches with no clear victor in sight until the final moments.  The faculty and students who compete are both in it to win – primarily for bragging rights – so neither side holds back!

The event is always themed, which manifests itself in publicity, t-shirt designs, and sometimes even costumes.  This year is themed after Super Smash Bros. Brawl, a popular video game featuring famous Nintendo mascot characters. All audience members also have the chance to enter an opportunity prize drawing that includes Magic Mountain and Disneyland tickets and a coupon for 50% off a KAPLAN test prep course. Please come witness this exciting event that the OC Register calls “One of the most enjoyable public events of the year.”

Competing CHP students:
Jonathan Tucci, 2nd yr; Lauren Biron, 4th yr; Alejandro Komai, 4th yr; Brian McGrew, 3rd yr; Vicky Wiraatmadja, 2nd yr; Brett Moodie, 4th yr; Kent Boydston, 4th yr; Jacob Edman, 1st yr; Chris Cole, 3rd yr; Danni Menard, 4th yr; Kevin Li, 3rd yr; Jessie Dummer, 1st yr.

Peer Mentor Coordinator Applications – Due April 18

Do you have fond memories of your peer mentor from freshman year?  Is there something you want changed about the Peer Mentor Program?  Do you want to be more involved in CHP but don’t know how?  Well, you should apply to be a Peer Mentor Coordinator for the 2008-2009 school year!  Coordinators plan the meet & greet social during Welcome Week for new freshmen and at least one casual event per quarter where freshmen can mingle with their upperclassmen mentors.  It is a fun way to be involved in the CHP but doesn’t require a huge time commitment.

Applications can be picked up at the CHP office or downloaded from HERE.  The online application is an editable PDF document.

They must be turned in to the CHP office by Friday April 18th.

Contact any of the current Peer Mentor Coordinators if you have questions about the position!

Alejandro Komai (akomai@uci.edu), Karun Gogna (kgogna@uci.edu), or Kayla Xavier (kxavier@uci.edu)

Upperclassmen vs. Freshmen Flag Football Game

The annual sporting tradition returns to the Arroyo Vista Lawn/Amphitheater on Saturday, May 3 at 1 PM!

Who will assert their dominance this year?  Will the upperclassmen overcome the freshmen to reclaim the mystical golden cups?  Only YOU can decide the outcome!  Come play, watch, eat, or cheer for your peers!  The game will be followed by a FREE BBQ, so everyone is a winner!

Sponsored by the AV HAs, Loma, Arroyo, and Shire RAs, and CHSC!  This is an event you don’t want to miss!  There’s no need to sign-up in advance…just show up the day of the event ready to play!  Upperclassmen players please dress in white shirts and freshmen please dress in black so we can distinguish between teams.  Flags and football will be provided.  Contact Liz Seward (mseward@uci.edu) for more information.
