Upcoming Scholarships

DAAD Workshop This Week – Travel to Germany!
Why not get a stipend for your studies? The DAAD program funds both graduate and undergraduate studies abroad in Germany, and sophomores, juniors, and seniors may apply to the various opportunities they have available. CIE peer advisor and DAAD representative Joanne Buenaventura will be speaking at a couple of workshops about DAAD and what it can do for you. $20,000 for Grad School in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences
The deadline is fast approaching! Seniors planning to go to graduate school in select fields may qualify for the Javits prestigious fellowship. While the deadline for SOP review has already passed, you can still apply, and we will still answer any questions you might have about it! Scholarships are like shoes…
…It’s all about finding one that fits you! Fall is one of the busiest times for scholarships and you don’t want to miss out on a grant or fellowship that would be perfect for your future goals. Many scholarships, including the Ford, Hertz, NSF, and Soros scholarships are due in early November. Especially if you are a senior intending on going to grad school, please check out our main page at www.scholars.uci.edu or check out our bulletin board to see what opportunities are approaching.

Volunteers Needed to Give Music Lessons

Areo Saffarzadeh is a 1st year medical student at UC Irvine. He is working with a new program that gives free music lessons to children in the Illumination Foundation (who used to be homeless). They are looking for volunteers who can give music lessons. Very little experience is necessary. This is a 2 hour, one day per week commitment. If you are interested, please respond to Areo at areosaf@gmail.com and include your name and instrument in the subject line.

Have-A-Heart Volunteer Fair

The Center for Service in Action, formerly the UCI Volunteer Center, will host the Have-A-Heart Volunteer Fair 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at UCI Anteater Plaza. Join the collective effort to make a stronger and more positive community at UCI. Community service groups and agencies interested in offering volunteer and internship positions within UCI and Orange County will participate.

Fusion!

Want to meet more students from the CHP? Come out to Fusion, a night of fun games and hanging out with your fellow CHPers! Games will include Spoons, Ninja, board games, and this is always a fun event! Fusion is open to all CHPers, and is a great way to meet students outside of where you live. The event will be held on Wednesday, 9/30 at 7pm in the Shire. You are also welcome to join us for dinner at Pippin (in the Tolkien Room) at 6pm beforehand. Whether you are a freshman, transfer, commuter, or some other -er, we hope you can make it out!

CHSC General Meeting

Did you know that as a CHPer, you’re already part of the Campuswide Honors Student Council? Come out to the first CHSC meeting of the year where you can catch up with old friends, make new ones, and learn about all kinds of great events CHSC has planned for you!

This week’s meeting will be on Wednesday 9/30 at 5pm and will be located in the Shire in Middle Earth. We’re looking forward to seeing you there!
