Upcoming Scholarship Opportunities
October 27, 2008 at 2:16 pm by Jeff Fulkerson
i. Featured scholarship of the week: USA TODAY Academic All Stars. This program is modeled after an all-star sports team, and judges look for students who have already demonstrated excellent academic achievement, leadership, and community service. Winners receive a $2,500 cash award, a trophy, and national recognition in USA Today magazine.
Applicants must be sophomores, juniors, or seniors, but do not need to be U.S. citizens. Because the award requires faculty nomination, interested students should ask a current UCI faculty member to provide a short nomination letter addressing what the student has accomplished. This letter should be on official school letterhead and signed. The postmark deadline for this scholarship is December 12, 2008.
Judges try to build a team of students who are universally outstanding and who excel in different ways. If you are a student who has demonstrated your passion for excellence, learn more about this scholarship at http://www.usatoday.com/news/education/2008-10-20-all-usa-nomination_N.htm or at our website

The Boren Scholarship allows undergraduate students to study in countries that are usually underrepresented in study abroad. You can be funded for $20,000 for one year, or $30,000 for two years, depending on which scholarship you apply for. For more information, please check out www.borenawards.org.

Students on F-1 visas who are eligible to work in the US during these dates may apply.

Teach For America – Deadline 11/7
October 27, 2008 at 2:15 pm by Jeff Fulkerson
The second deadline to apply for the 2009 Teach For America teaching corps is on Friday, November 7th. Teach For America is the national corps that is working to eliminate educational inequality by calling upon our most promising future leaders – recent college graduates of all backgrounds and academic majors – to teach for two years in urban and rural public schools and to become lifelong advocates for change. Teach For America believes that all children deserve the opportunity to attain an excellent education, and students from the University of California, Irvine could be great candidates to fulfill this mission, which is why we are hoping to reach out to as many students from UCI as we can. For this reason, we are having an Information Session at UCI today, October 27th at 5 PM in the UCI Students Center Emerald Bay A Room. Hope to see you there!
