Call for Submissions: Scribendi
October 6, 2008 at 1:41 pm by Jeff Fulkerson
Scribendi, the Western Regional Honors Council’s creative writing and arts journal for honors students, is accepting submissions until October 20, 2008. Scribendi is a high-quality journal in which several CHP students have published in the past. They are accepting submission of poetry, short fiction, essays/creative nonfiction, digital art, photography, and visual art. If you would like to see last year’s Scribendi, a copy is available in the CHP office.
In addition, Scribendi is accepting cover design submissions, which means you have the chance of seeing your design on the cover of the 2009 edition of Scribendi. The deadline for cover designs submissions is December 12, 2008.
Submission application and further information is available at http://scribendi.unm.edu/ . Questions? Please email scribend@unm.edu, or call (505) 255-7407.

WICKED the Musical
October 6, 2008 at 10:17 am by Jeff Fulkerson
No time to lose! WICKED will be leaving the Pantages in LA by the end of this calendar year, so if you have been planning to see it, have seen it and want to see it again, or want to know what all the fuss is about, come check out the musical everyone is raving about. Learn the untold stories of the witches of Oz, their experiences as college roommates, and everything that happened before Dorothy dropped in! If you are interested in purchasing discounted tickets by attending this NAR/CHSC event, please e-mail Sarah Barber at sbarber@uci.edu so we can gauge how many tickets we should purchase. Don’t miss out on this amazing experience; 2008 will be the last time to see WICKED at Pantages before it goes on tour. Rides will be arranged. Please respond by Friday, October 10th!

Teach For America: Join the movement to end educational inequity
October 6, 2008 at 9:54 am by Jeff Fulkerson
Disparities in educational opportunities limit the life choices of the 13 million children growing up in poverty today, impacting their earning potential, voter participation, civic engagement and community involvement. These disparities disproportionately impact African-American, Latino/Hispanic, and Native American children, who are three times as likely to live in a low-income area.* You have the power to change this.
Teach For America seeks individuals from all backgrounds, academic majors, and career interests who possess the leadership skills and experience that will enable them to change the prospects of students growing up today and, ultimately, to effect fundamental change in our society that will make it a place of opportunity for all.
As a member of Teach For America, you will commit two years to teach in one of our country’s high-need public schools and will gain the skills, perspective, and experience that will help you make an impact over the long term and pursue your personal and professional goals, regardless of your career path.
This is a challenging endeavor, but by taking advantage of the support and resources that Teach For America provides, you can have a tremendous impact on the lives of your students.
To learn more, visit www.teachforamerica.org or contact admissions@teachforamerica.org.
Application Deadline: Friday November 7h, 2008.
Full salary and benefits. All academic majors.
