CHSC General Meeting on Wednesday

This week is CHSC’s last general meeting of the quarter, and we’re going out with a bang!  Join us this Wednesday at 5 PM in the Locus to find out if YOUR HALL won is one of the two Penny Drive Winners, pre-order your 2008-2009 CHP Shirt, and get some information about our upcoming events, including Semi-Formal!  AND if you’ve gotten a lottery ticket at any one of our CHSC meetings (in fact, you can get one at this week’s meeting), we’ll be handing out either 2 movie tickets or 2 free tickets to Semi-formal to this quarter’s lucky lottery winner!!  So be sure to be there for a fun activity, CHP updates, and food!  See you there!

Update your address!

Hey CHPers!  Please make sure that we have your correct address by going to the following website:  http://web.due.uci.edu/chp/updatecontactinfo.aspx .  It will show you what we have in our database, as well as what the registrar has.  It is important that we have accurate information, because we do mail things out occasionally.  It will only take a minute to update.  Thank you for your help!

**Important Reminders**

The end of the quarter is almost here, so procrastinating is not an option!  Check your transcripts to make sure that you don’t have any “NR”s or holds that you need to deal with.  Any “NR” from the previous quarter (Spring or Summer, if applicable) will turn to an “F” at the end of this quarter, so take care of it now before it is too late!  Also, if you have a hold on your record, talk to an academic counselor to find out what you need to do to remove it.  There are several types of holds, and if the hold is not removed by the end of this quarter, you will be dropped from your winter quarter classes.

If you have not yet done so, remember to sign up for the honors core class that you are supposed to enroll in.  If you have problems enrolling, please let us know right away.  Freshmen, you should have already picked up your authorization codes, but if not, please come see us in the office as soon as possible.  If you are not planning on taking the courses laid out in your course plan, you must file a petition to waive or postpone the course.  Please talk to an honors advisor if you have any questions about this process.

Scribendi Cover Design Contest

Dear WRHC members and Scribendi liaisons:

As we near the month of December, we’d like to remind you that Scribendi fine art and literary magazine, produced at the University of New Mexico, is still accepting cover design submissions for the 2009 issue. The deadline, December 12, is coming up soon.

We began our cover contest in 2008 in order to give undergraduate honors students from the western region of the U.S. an opportunity to have their designs displayed on an issue of Scribendi. This year we are continuing this tradition, and we need your students’ help!

The design should cover the front, spine, and back of the magazine, and it should include the words Scribendi 2009.

Specifications:

-Works must be 300 DPI

-.tiff and .eps files only

-CMYK color; not RGB

-No file compression

-File must be PC compatible

Cover design submissions may be submitted electronically or through regular mail. The submission form and instructions can be found on our website at Scribendi.unm.edu/Submissions/forms.htm.

Cover designs from previous issues may be viewed at Scribendi.unm.edu/Archives/previouseditions.htm.

In order to be eligible to submit a cover design, students must be undergraduates enrolled in an honors program at a school that is a member of the Western Regional Honors Council. Additionally, the student’s school must have paid its dues to the WRHC for this year. More information can be found at Wrhc.cieja.com/.

With this email we’ve included a cover contest flyer in PDF form that you can use to get the word out to your honors students. We would greatly appreciate it if you’d take a few moments to make copies of the flyer and put them up where your honors students will see them.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at Scribendi.unm.edu or call us at (505) 277-7407. Again, the deadline for cover design submissions if December 12. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Scribendi staff 2008-2009

No CHSC General Meeting this week

Hey CHSC goers!  This Wednesday, due to Thanksgiving break, there will be NO CHSC general meeting.  Instead, we encourage everyone to come out to our WEEK 10 general CHSC meeting, Wednesday at 5 in the Locus.  That meeting will include the Penny Driver Winners announcement, CHP T-shirt design announcement, and our Lottery Drawing for those who have gotten a lottery ticket at a CHSC meeting.  So please be there – we’ve got food!  :)

CHSC goes to AVENUE Q!

What is AVENUE Q about?

AVENUE Q is the story of Princeton, a bright-eyed college grad who comes
to New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account. He soon
discovers that the only neighborhood in his price range is Avenue Q;
still, the neighbors seem nice. There’s Brian the out-of-work comedian and
his therapist fianceé Christmas Eve; Nicky the good-hearted slacker and
his roommate Rod — a Republican investment banker who seems to have some
sort of secret; an Internet addict called Trekkie Monster; and a very cute
kindergarten teaching assistant named Kate. And would you believe the
building’s superintendent is Gary Coleman?!? (Yes, that Gary Coleman.)
Together, Princeton and his newfound friends struggle to find jobs, dates,
and their ever-elusive purpose in life.

In short, it’s a hilarious musical that’s coming to the Orange County P.A.C., and if you’ve never heard of it or heard of it and haven’t gotten the chance to see it yet (”I Wish I Could Go Back to College,” which was sung at last year’s banquet, is from this musical), here’s your golden opportunity: we’re arranging tickets!  Ticket prices range from $10-$30 with our group discount, depending on where you want to sit.  The performance that we are looking at is for Thursday, April 9th at 7:30 PM, since the PAC is close enough for a weeknight to not be a problem. Currently, we are gauging interests as to how many tickets to purchase, so if you could please e-mail Sarah Barber (sbarber@uci.edu) if you are interested or even just want more information on the musical, I will let you know how to proceed.

A WARNING: AVENUE Q may not be appropriate for some because it addresses issues like sex, drinking, and surfing the web for porn.

Disclaimer:  The Campuswide Honors Program does not endorse any material that may be presented in or for the AVENUE Q musical, and neither encourages nor discourages each student’s participation in this event, leaving that decision to the discretion of each individual.  In short, please do not send angry messages to the office saying that Avenue Q is offensive to you – they are not responsible.

Texas Feed ‘Em Recap

For those who missed Texas Feed ‘Em, here is a recap.  Fun was had by all, the competition was stiff, but ultimately the victors emerged.  First place went to Trent Brookshier, and Second place went to Megan Otters.  Alex Perry was the lucky raffle winner, winning himself an iPod Shuffle!  All of the canned foods gathered at the event are going to the Orange County Rescue Mission’s Heart for Hunger program.  Thank you to everyone who participated!

Vote for CHP T-Shirt Design!

The time to submit your designs has passed!  Now you must vote to determine what this year’s CHP t-shirt will be!  Take a look at the designs on the CHSC website and go to http://eee.uci.edu/survey/CHPshirt to vote!  You should have received an email today letting you know that you have been invited to take the survey.  Deadline to vote is next Monday, December 1st, at 5pm.  Don’t hesitate, vote today!

CHP Office Closure Times

The CHP Office will be closed on November 25th from 11:30 until 1pm.  On Wednesday, November 26th, the office will close at 3pm and will not reopen until the following Monday (Dec. 1st).
