The CHP Variety Show
December 8, 2008 at 5:05 pm by Jeff Fulkerson
The 4th Annual CHP Variety Show is coming on February 24th in SSPA 1100. The CHP Variety Show is an opportunity to relax between midterms and finals, socialize with some of your CHP peers while watching some of them perform for you! This is a VARIETY show (not a competition or talent show), and that’s what we welcome in our acts. So why is it being mentioned so early? To get some great ideas stirring over the break of course!
Presentations for potential acts will take place in week 4 (Monday and Tuesday), so you have until then to come up with a fun act and get it started. We ask that acts be family-friendly, and include (but are not limited to): singing, dancing/choreographed routines, skits, instrument/band, magic, juggling, monologue/stand-up routine, or any wacky talent you can perform. Get those ideas rolling and keep your ears open for updates!

Upcoming Scholarship Opportunities
December 8, 2008 at 4:44 pm by Jeff Fulkerson
1. USA TODAY Academic All Stars. This program is modeled after an all-star sports team, and judges look for students who have already demonstrated excellent academic achievement, leadership, and community service. Winners receive a $2,500 cash award, a trophy, and national recognition in USA Today magazine.
Applicants must be sophomores, juniors, or seniors, but do not need to be U.S. citizens. Because the award requires faculty nomination, interested students should ask a current UCI faculty member to provide a short nomination letter addressing what the student has accomplished. This letter should be on official school letterhead and signed. The postmark deadline for this scholarship is December 12, 2008.
Judges try to build a team of students who are universally outstanding and who excel in different ways. If you are a student who has demonstrated your passion for excellence, learn more about this scholarship at http://www.usatoday.com/news/education/2008-10-20-all-usa-nomination_N.htm or at our website http://www.scholars.uci.edu/prestigiousweb.asp?pid=14 .
