Twilight Bowling at Irvine Lanes! Fri, Nov. 30

Would you like to enjoy a joyous night filled with fun with friends?  Then come out to Twilight Bowling!  The event will take place at Irvine Lanes @ 11PM to 2AM on November 30th. If you would like to attend, then please either Join the Facebook group or email Social Chairs Eunjae J. Kim (eunjaek@uci.edu) or Sarah Barber (sbarber@uci.edu). To get a feel for how many people will attend, we would like people to sign up by November 28th, by the end of the CHSC meeting.

Scholarship Deadlines & Applications

1. Apply to be on the USA TODAY College Academic All-Stars Team!

2. Elie Wiesel Ethics Essay Contest Deadline Approaching

1. If you are a sophomore, junior, or senior that has good grades, leadership experience, and has done community service, you should apply for the USA TODAY Academic All-Stars. Winners will receive $2500, a trophy, and have their photo and accomplishments featured in USA TODAY. For more information, please visit: http://www.scholars.uci.edu/prestigiousweb.asp?pid=14 .

2. If ethics is something you are interested in and you are a junior or senior, consider applying for the Elie Wiesel Ethics Essay contest. Winners receive $5000. Essays must be between 3000 to 4000 words and must answer one of the following prompts:

~What does your own experience tell you about the relationship between politics and ethics and, in particular, what could be done to make politics more ethical?

~Articulate with clarity an ethical issue that you have encountered and analyze what it has taught you about ethics and yourself.

~Carefully examine the ethical aspects or implications of a major literary work, a film or a significant piece of art.

~Clearly analyze the relationship between religion and ethics in today’s world.

~How does a recent political or cultural event shed light on the ethics of rebellion/revolution?

Last Week to get tickets to Phantom of the Opera!! Deadline: Fri 3 PM!

The Phantom of the Opera, the longest-running show in Broadway history, returns to the Orange County Performing Arts Center to take your breath away. It’s a timeless story of seduction and despair and the one show The Sunday Times (London) called “God’s gift to the musical theatre.”

Performance Date: Sunday, March 30th, 2008 at 6:30 PM (The day before Spring Quarter classes start!…so you know you’re free.)
Where: Orange County Performing Arts Center
Student Group Ticket Price: $21.25
Sign-Up: Sign-up and pay for your tickets in the honors office by Fri, Nov. 30th 3:00PM!
Need a ride? We will be arranging carpools.

Elementary and Middle School Academic Tutor

An academic tutor for two school-age children, grades 5 and 8,  is sought.  Both possess strong learning skills in grade appropriate language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.  The tutor needs to be comfortable with the above subjects, able to explain assignments clearly, and provide encouragement and assistance as needed. A range of four to eight hours is expected per week, though scheduling may be flexible.  The rate is $15.00/hour. We are located very close to the UCI campus.
