As a reminder, if you need help with finding the appropriate research/creative opportunity and mentor, please complete the Student Interest Form, available on the UROP Web site (www.urop.uci.edu) under Student Corner.
UROP will fund a varied set of projects, with request up to $1,000 for individual projects, where the average amount of funding has been close to $600. For group proposals that involve multiple students, requests can be for up to $2,500, where the average amount of funding has been close to $1,200.
Funds can be used to support such expenditures as the purchase of materials and supplies, research-related travel, and the costs incurred in the presentation of research or creative activities. These funds cannot support major hardware purchases, salaries or stipends, or travel expenditures only. Proposals requiring no funding, or receiving adequate funding from departmental or other sources, may be submitted for a UROP Honorary Fellowship.

The UROP Faculty Advisory Board will review the proposals. Standards for evaluation of funding requests include:
* Intellectual merit in the student’s proposed research activity
* Thoroughness and completeness of the proposal packet

SPOP Coordinator Applications – Due 11/9

Summer Orientation Coordinator applications are now available. The Office
of the Dean of Students will be hiring 5 student coordinators to help design
and run UCI’s summer orientation programs for new students and parents.
Previous experience with the Student Parent Orientation Program (SPOP) is
not required. We are looking for a diverse group of experienced and capable
leaders to help ensure that the program continues to grow and better the
college experiences of all of its participants.

Please note, this is a call for applications for the 5 SPOP Coordinator
positions, not the 135 Staffer positions. Applicants must be experienced

CHP T-shirt Design! NEW Deadline – Nov. 14!

Because we did not receive a minimum of five submissions by last Wednesday’s CHSC meeting, the submission deadline and voting on designs has been postponed to the Week 7 CHSC Meeting, November 14, 5 PM! Upload designs here: http://spirit.dos.uci.edu/chsc/submit/tshirt/

Do you have a knack at graphic design? Have a unique, interesting, catchy slogan/logo that you think would make a great t-shirt? CHSC is now accepting T-shirt designs for the 07-08 CHP T-shirt! Maybe you’ve seen previous years’ designs worn by current students. These have included the infamous “CHP Geeks,” “iCHP” (iPOD) design, “You say Overachiever Like it’s a Bad Thing,” and “Campuswide Honors” in Abercrombie font designs.
Shirt design must include:
1. The year: 2007-2008 or 07-08
2. The text: CHP or Campuswide Honors Program
3. Can not exceed 3 colors (including shirt color)
4. Designs with both Front AND Back artwork preferred
5. No offensive slang or inappropriate imagery
6. Electronic Submissions ONLY – Photoshop, Illustrator, (other graphic programs), or high resolution JPEG or GIF (200 dpi or greater)
7. Multiple entries per person are allowed
8. Artist of winning design gets a free CHP t-shirt
9. Please upload your submissions to the CHSC website

Tango Dance Party & Performance

Come show off your hot dance moves or just join in the excitement at the Orange County Performing Arts Center’s first ever Tango Dance Party. This very unique event is free to the public and only a couple minutes drive from UCI. There will also be professional demonstrations of this sizzling art form and lessons from leading tango instructors.
