Mandatory Meeting for Humanities Honors Program

Today’s scheduled meeting (which I know many of you CHP students did not previously know about) has been rescheduled for this Friday (May 30) at 3:30 in HIB 143. Please plan on attending, as it is a mandatory meeting for next year’s HHP Senior Students.  Professor Silver will be letting you know what to expect during next year’s thesis class, so, as stated before, it is very important and mandatory that you attend. Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

A pre-show band performance by UCI Logic & Philosophy of Science Professors Kyle Stanford and Jeffrey Barrett will kick off the event.  Battle of the Brains is a trivia competition that pits current CHP students against UCI Deans and prestigious faculty.  In addition to the trivia battle that ensues on stage, audience members participate by answering questions unknown by either team. Excitement steadily builds throughout the event as each side dukes it out over the course of three rounds. The past few years have yielded very close matches with no clear victor in sight until the final moments.  The faculty and students who compete are both in it to win – primarily for bragging rights – so neither side holds back!

The event is always themed, which manifests itself in publicity, t-shirt designs, and sometimes even costumes.  This year is themed after Super Smash Bros. Brawl, a popular video game featuring famous Nintendo mascot characters. All audience members also have the chance to enter an opportunity prize drawing that includes Magic Mountain and Disneyland tickets and a coupon for 50% off a KAPLAN test prep course. Please come witness this exciting event that the OC Register calls “One of the most enjoyable public events of the year.”
