I have been a committed Anteater since 1999, when I moved to Southern California and came to work
for UCI. In the course of my education, I have made my way through several mascots, none of them as
interesting as Myrmecophaga tridactyla. These include a host of bagpipe wielding fighting Scottsmen,
gophers, and bees. Needless to say, I am happy to be at UCI.
I grew up in Minnesota, and received my B.A. from Macalester College, and my Ph.D. in 18th Century
German Literature from the University of Minnesota. During the course of my education, I lived in
Germany for several years, and am a committed Germanophile. I then became a professor in the
Humanities Department at Eastman School of Music, where I taught German and humanities courses
to honors students. My career then took a turn toward administration, and I began work in the area of
fundraising and public relations for the Claire Trevor School of the Arts at UCI as Director of
Development. I joined the Campuswide Honors Program in the Fall of 2005, and am delighted to be
part of one of the best honors programs in the nation.
When not on campus with all of the other Anteaters, I enjoy singing with the Orange County Women's
Chorus, which is infamous for "causing treble." I also love a good book, a good pun, art, baseball, and
dogs (both good and bad). I welcome all CHP'ers to campus and invite you to stop by the office and
say hello.
