» Goldwater Scholarship
Enjoy research? Planning to pursue a career in math, science, engineering or computer science? Apply for undergraduate funding through the Goldwater Scholarship! If you will graduate between December 2007 and August 2009, have a 3.75+ GPA and are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, you could qualify for 1-2 years of funding at up to $7,500 per year.

Access application materials at the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation’s website at www.act.org/goldwater /. Applications are due January 3, 2007 in UCI's Scholarship Opportunities Program office (1200 Student Services II, Irvine , CA 92697-5680-01). » Truman Scholarship
Partial to public policy? If you're a Junior with an excellent academic record and solid leadership experience who wants to make a difference through a career in public service, apply for graduate school funding through the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation! The Scholarship funds up to $30,000 for students who intend a career in government, the nonprofit or advocacy sectors, education or other realm of public service. Truman Scholars participate in leadership development programs and have special opportunities for internships and employment with the federal government. Strong candidates will have extensive public and community service experience and be U.S. citizens or nationals.

Applications are due January 3, 2007 in UCI's Scholarship Opportunities Program office. Applications may not be submitted directly to the Truman Foundation. » Scholarship for Language, Political & Cultural Studies Abroad
Students in any year of study may apply for the National Security Education Program’s David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarship, which supports study in geographic areas, languages, and fields of study deemed critical to U.S. national security. It funds up to $20,000 for up to a year of language and political/cultural studies in Africa , Asia , Central & Eastern Europe, Latin America , the Caribbean , and the Middle East.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens who plan to study in the above regions between summer 2007 and spring 2008. Please note: this program does not support study in Canada , Australia , New Zealand or Western Europe .

All recipients of the scholarship must agree to work for a federal agency or office involved in national security affairs for a period of time equivalent to the length of program funded by the award.
